Craig Smith (Craigers) is a multimedia artist and filmmaker who has taught digital art in a number of universities and art colleges in Ireland and the UK. He graduated from Belfast art college in 1996 with a 1:1 specialising in multimedia, and has a PhD in Film Studies that focused on the emergence of the ‘motion comic’.
Craigers is interested in themes of identity, nostalgia and subcultures which resonate with modern culture, as we all try to navigate a world that is in constant change. By adding additional supernatural or mythological elements to his artwork, Craigers is creating new mythologies and characters within the canon of his work that are alive with narrative qualities. He uses a range of techniques within his digital paintings, animation and 3D art to create images that are rich in detail, but also contain expressive painterly textures and elements.
